Television and Children

So well, here's another essay...a different topic this time...a topic upon which u can have a debate..but well I have simply placed my views in it.

So the topic this time is Is Television Good for Children?

The television was invented by Philo Taylor Fansworth on September 7,1927. It was one of the important inventions that took place in the twentieth century. It was invented as a medium of communication and soon became the best method of communication. Now, besides communicating the news and information television has also become a medium of entertainment. The television at first showed only news and a few daily soap operas. Now there are hundreds of channels where one can choose according to his taste. Some channels such as National Geographic show information on various facts whereas some show information related to entertainment. Nowadays, everyone watches the television for news update, entertainment or leisure.
This television has proved to be very important but it has had a great impact on the life of children. Children in the earlier years used to spend their time with friends but now everyone simply lies on the sofa and starts to watch T.V. Before all the children used to meet up in the evening and play for long hours but nowadays kids don’t even meet. They are all glued to the television sets. Hence, television has caused a disturbance in the social life of children. The television also shows information which is not suitable for children. If this stuff is watched by the children it will mislead them and put a different thinking in their mind. It will teach them things before the appropriate age or will teach them a thing that is not true in the real world. It also affects their studies. Nowadays just to watch their favourite show, the kids leave all their works sit right in front of the television. Therefore, the television diverts their attention from studies. If a soccer match is going to be aired, most school kids leave their studies and homework just to watch the match. Television affects the human morals and thinking on a large way. It potrays information that is based on fantasy and is totally a false story. Finally, television leads to poor eyesight. The beam of light that falls on the eyes gives a lot of stress to the eyes and thus leads to defect in the eye. This can prove harmful at a later time.
Therefore, even though the television has proved to be a source of learning by providing the information in a visual manner, it has finally become a hindrance in the path of the children towards their success.

Happy Reading!
